6G and AI MWC 2026: India's Smart Connectivity Future

From February 24 to February 28, 2026, MWC will convene in Barcelona,  and the theme will be “The IQ Era”, setting the stage for the next level of mobile evolution. This not only raises questions around its implications, but also brings 6G and AI MWC 2026 into focus for Indian entrepreneurs looking to boost the output of Surat’s diamond cutting industry or textiles in this vibrant city of 5.9 million. In other words, the event is laying the foundation of what the future of mobile could look like for us low latency 6G connections powering Artificial Intelligence agents.

AI-Native 6G Takes Centre Stage at MWC 2026

At MWC 2026 in Las Vegas, the discussion around 6G and AI was the focus, particularly among key industry players like Qualcomm, MediaTek, Ericsson and Huawei. One of the companies to discuss its efforts in both of these categories,  Qualcomm revealed a view on foundational 6G evolution, AI-native experiences, and sensing enabled Digital Twin for efficiency.

MediaTek highlighted the world’s first 6G radio interoperability demo, while Ericsson presented an AI-native design for communications networks and highlighted how this would bring new life to the enterprise space with things like ‘6G for Physical AI’,  supporting responsive robots via edge compute,  and seamlessly sharing context between agentic AI. Ericsson aims for a 2029 commercialisation date, and says it‘s AI-native by design from the ground up rather than being 5GAI retrofitted.

Key advancements this year include AI-RAN,  the network infrastructure that makes up the distributed system, ISAC, the technology that allows for integrated sensing and communication with digital twins, and agentic systems that can perform predictions and acts, predicting actions we will take on our digital twins.

Indian Businesses could find their 6G and Artificial Intelligence business in MWC 2026 that it will be held in Barcelona next year. Some more important events such as CES 2025 and WCC are just days after Mobile World Congress 2026,  so keep your ears to the ground.

“The developments in 6G technology and AI for MWC 2026, will bring game changing applications for Surat exporters,” says Himanshu, “It can help in real-time translation through glasses during meetings with buyers. We will have wearable technology to monitor textile machinery through sensors and conduct predictive maintenance.  These will help us optimize inventory through edge AI with low latency. We are ready to deploy this at any point.”

All these data-driven innovations are becoming more viable for Micro Small and Medium enterprises. Lower data costs,  integration of sovereign AI into operations, and the DPDP Act make them a smart choice, a move they will need to take.

The Road Ahead for India in the IQ Era

There are spectrum allocation issues in many countries. But these can be resolved in the future as telecom companies upgrade to 5G-Advanced which will help transition to 6G.  This is why the MWC is vital, showing innovative approaches on energy-efficient,  and skill building techniques that enable better telcom. India is well-prepared.
